Tourmaline var. Elbaite with Quartz and Stibiotantalite

Tourmaline var. Elbaite with Quartz and Stibiotantalite

A complex, yet extremely aesthetic elbaite from the Paprok pegmatite. The balance of the piece is marvellous, with the major tourmaline nestled within a deep brown, softly lustrous multiple-terminated smoky quartz at one end, and bent down due to a rehealed pocket fracture to balance perfectly at the other. The smaller, more translucent elbaite protrudes further out, balancing the geometry of the major quartz termination. The real mineralogical kicker to the piece, however, is hidden from view in this photograph…a 6mm lustrousorange bladed crystal of the very rare pegmatite mineral Stibiotantalite (an antimony/tantalum/niobium oxide) growing on the rear tourmaline.
