A striking and aesthetic specimen of wulfenite from Los Lamentos. The crystals are chunky, lustrous, and have the classic symmetrical “butterscotch sandwich” colouration with a dark central band and lighter outer zones. The presence of a dark acid green microcrystalline descloizite matrix is an added bonus in terms of provenance within the Ahumada-Erupcion orebody. Above the 650’ level in the mine, vanadinite and descloizite are present as overgrowths on, or psuedomorphs of, wulfenite. They become separate as a matrix at or below the 700’ level, so we can say with some certainty that this piece comes from the deepest levels of the mine.
