Specimens of the relatively rare copper silicate Shattuckite (named for the Shattuck Mine in Bisbee where it was first recognized) were quite common in the marketplace in the period 2005 to 2015, when they were being produced from small workings in the Kunene Region of Namibia, although that supply seems to have dried up in recent years. The robins’‑egg blue botryoidal shattuckite from this area was generally agreed to be some of the best ever found, and for form and color this piece is up there with the best. The botryoids in this case have formed prominentthree‑dimensional growths with a very organic appearance. The association with primary malachite was the cherry on top for serious African locality collectors, and again this specimen delivers in spades, with beautifully‑developed intergrown sheaves of deep green lustrous malachite filling the vug with what at first glance appears to be a single very robust crystal. A classy specimen from a Classic locality!
